Spiking Awareness Week 22 September to Friday 26 September 2025

Dear Resident,

Freshers Week is approaching and we wanted to share with you the attached information in the hope you can pass this information on to students and student unions in Kingston to try and keep students safe.

Met Police want to raise awareness on drink spiking and share information on the signs of spiking and what do to if you or a someone you’re with has been spiked.

Spiking is when someone puts alcohol or drugs into another person’s drink or body without their consent or knowledge.

People can also be a victim of ‘needle spiking’, which is injecting someone with drugs without their consent.

Spiking can happen to anyone, anywhere and can be carried out by strangers or people you know.

Spiking someone could be a number of criminal offences, which can carry sentences of up to ten years in prison; even when no other offence, like theft or assault, has happened.

We want students to know that they should not be afraid of speaking to the police. They will not be judged. We know it can be scary to report, but we're here to help you.
